We like to have fun at the Garage, and guaranteed there will be laughing and classic rock on the big screen.

The Garage has a retro vibe that pays homage to our love affair with the automobile, and rock and roll. This provides the perfect setting for us to reveal the hidden beauty in each customer’s ride. They can bring joy to our lives, and provide a safe, and comfortable environment to share time with those we care about. Remember the way you felt when you first picked up your new ride? How it felt walking up to it while admiring the shine and smoothness of the flawless paint?

Over time the elements, harsh chemicals and salt, the sun, improper washing and drying techniques can dull the shine you fell in love with. Surface bonded contaminants such as rail dust and bird droppings can actually etch your paint if not properly removed.

A part of the Okotoks and area community since 2016, we have worked with thousands of satisfied customers and look forward to working with you.

At the Garage, Dale and I are determined to bring out the best possible finish in each and every vehicle we work on. We have years of experience, using top shelf equipment and patients to bring out the best in your vehicle’s shine, and we do it because we love it.

We prefer to run a small, low volume shop, fully concentrating on each project. This allows us to take our time to get it right, and the look on the owners face at the reveal says it all. From a light surface decontamination and wax to a three-stage correction and ceramic coating, we have a full suite of detailing packages that will suit your needs.

The clearcoat on your vehicle is very thin, about 1.5-2.5 mils, and it is responsible for the beautiful shine that highlights the paint under it. Over time, the clearcoat becomes damaged in various ways such as in car washes that touch the vehicle, improper drying techniques, the weather, rail dust to name a few. The clearcoat develops micro-scratches that dull the finish, and no wax or coating will remove this damage.

We have the expertise and equipment to bring your ride back to its full potential. We begin with a thorough inspection of your vehicle’s surface to determine the best approach to restoring its shine. This is a great time for us to get to know you and your unique needs. The level of correction required, depends on the amount of damage and the desired result. To ensure you are completely satisfied, it is important to discuss your expectations, so we get it right!

Before any detailing or correction, we always clean the paint thoroughly using a clay bar to remove stubborn surface bonded contaminants. Then we strip off any old wax and clean the surface with an alcohol based solution. Our selection of professional-grade products and tested techniques ensure efficient removal of swirl marks, hazing and scratches on your vehicle’s clear coat. At Chip and Dale’s we utilize Rupes polishers, compounds and pads, the best from Italy to ensure masterful results.

Our detailing process eliminates the chance of hologramming and provides effective and safe defect removal. The compounds and pads actually remove very thin layers of clearcoat, exposing a more uniform pattern and removing or improving imperfections.

After correcting the paint, it is important to protect the surface with a sealant, wax, or coating. These products will ensure a deep lasting shine, and exhibit a strong hydrophobic response to water, causing it to “bead” and wash away dirt easier. They also provide some protection from contaminants such as sap and bird droppings. Each product has a different life span, which impacts the cost and may be a factor you, in deciding which one to use.

Paint Correction FAQ

Chip's Repairs

What is auto paint correction?

Auto paint correction is a process used to restore and enhance the appearance of a vehicle’s paintwork by removing imperfections such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and other surface defects.

How does auto paint correction work?

Auto paint correction typically involves several steps, including washing and
decontaminating the vehicle’s paint surface, followed by the use of abrasive compounds and polishing techniques to level out imperfections and restore gloss and clarity to the paint.

What types of imperfections can auto paint correction fix?

Auto paint correction can address a wide range of imperfections, including swirl marks, scratches, water spots, bird droppings etching, oxidation, and other surface defects that affect the appearance of the paint.

Can all types of paint defects be corrected with auto paint correction?

While auto paint correction can significantly improve the appearance of most paint defects, there are limitations to what can be corrected. Deep scratches that penetrate the clear coat or damage that has reached the underlying paint layers may not be fully corrected through paint correction alone.

How long does auto paint correction take?

The duration of auto paint correction depends on factors such as the extent of the damage, the size of the vehicle, and the specific correction techniques used. It can range from a few hours for minor correction to several days for more extensive correction on larger vehicles or heavily damaged paintwork.

Will auto paint correction remove swirl marks and scratches completely?

Auto paint correction can significantly reduce the visibility of swirl marks and scratches, making them less noticeable or even invisible under normal viewing conditions. However, complete removal may not always be possible, especially for deep or severe damage.

Is auto paint correction safe for all types of paint finishes?

Auto paint correction can be performed on most modern automotive paint finishes, including clear coats, single-stage paints, and ceramic coatings. However, it’s essential to use proper techniques, products, and equipment to avoid damaging the paint during the correction process.

How often should auto paint correction be performed?

The frequency of auto paint correction depends on factors such as driving habits, environmental conditions, and maintenance practices. As a general guideline, auto paint correction may be performed annually or as needed to maintain the appearance and protection of the vehicle’s paintwork. However it should be noted that the clearcoat is only between 1.5 and 2.5 mm thick, so there is only so much that can be removed through sanding and compounding.

Can I perform auto paint correction myself, or should I seek professional help?

While some DIY enthusiasts may attempt auto paint correction at home, it’s generally recommended to seek professional help, especially for more extensive correction or if you lack experience with paint correction techniques. Professional detailers have the expertise, tools, and products necessary to achieve optimal results safely and efficiently.

Is auto paint correction expensive?

The cost of auto paint correction varies depending on factors such as the size of the vehicle, the extent of the correction needed, and the detailing service provider’s pricing structure. While auto paint correction may represent an investment, it can significantly enhance the appearance and value of your vehicle.
